Widget option missing in Appearance

Hello,

I am not quite sure this is the right forum to post this issue. I need to access our website’s widgets for side bar content. Before you ask, I do have administration rights for the site. I have updated plugins. Is there a work around for locating widgets or editing the side bar content. There is a super admin, does this designation give access to widgets? Or is it a theme issue, where the theme does not provide the option?
