What happened to Dates???

My older version of WP (2.5.1) used to handle dates such that I could record blog entries (from old diaries) way into the 1960s.

Since moving to a new new machine and 2.8.4 all of my dates are fine back to about 1970… but anything earlier than that is shown as today’s date.

Could anyone shed light on how I correct this – one of the main reasons for using WP was to transcribe old diaries and journals and obviously that only makes sense if the dates are respected. (Checking in the MySQL entries for the items in question – the original dates are still recorded, so it is happening in the way the dates are rendered once the entry is extracted).
