I’m not typically asked to do this kind of installation and I’m more of a network guy than a programmer so I’m kind of stumped. I’ve done many installations of SQL Server and created empty databases for other programs to use via ODBC so I’d like to think that this should be as simple but somewhere I think I’m completely missing something.

I have a brand new Dell server right out of the box. I installed MySql first and then I tried to do the Famous 5 Minute install and was unsuccessful and then tried the Detailed Instructions but when I get to the section about “Run the Install Script” when I click on install.php and try to open in up in Internet Explorer it asks me to Open or Save. Is there something else that I should be running. I thought maybe I needed to download PHP and but that’s kind of unclear to me. I think once I get this up and running I can leave it alone and let the guy do his blog.

I’m thinking there is just some stuff completely left out of the picture that maybe a network guy like me wouldn’t know. Maybe I need WordPress for idiots?

  • Sounds like you need a mime-type for PHP in your webserver config. Apache under Windows?

And unmark this as resolved if it isn’t.
