• I tried installing WordPress, but I do not know html or anything about site design or programming–so I cannot even follow the instructions properly.

I can see that I am too ignorant to use WordPress. Any suggestions for simpler alternatives?

I had a great site using WordPress that went down–everything lost. So I really want to be able to set up a site myself and be able to back it up. Even if it does not look as good, I want something simple enough that I can make it work without having to hire consultants every few days.

  • I don’t know if this helps any, but I have never written a line of code in my entire life and I run WordPress just fine. If you are having trouble with something, you might want to ask around and see if you know someone who can help you get up and running in exchange for a meal or something. That’s how I got set up!

Once everything is up and running it shouldn’t be too difficult to maintain, there isn’t a lot to keeping up on a WordPress install.

You used exactly the right word: ignorant. That just means you don’t know how. It isn’t hard to learn though! My biggest issue was being overwhelmed by the amount of stuff there was to do. Once I just concentrated on each step one at a time it was a lot less intimidating.

If you are having trouble I’m sure the forums can help you through it. You will be much happier in the long run with your own installation.

Also you might want to check out your hosting company and see if they offer a “one-click” install of WordPress so you don’t have to do all the heavy lifting yourself.

    Hope this helps.

Go to http://simplescripts.com, register and run the script to install wordpress. They make it really easy if you use one of the standard web hosting companies and it’s free.
