Your user ID is not a security thing. Exposing it and/or a link to your author page is not a security issue. However, it you want to remove the link, then it’s best done at the theme. What theme are you using?
Hi Steve. Yeah, i get that in and of itself isn’t really a security thing, just struck me as odd to see it in there, especially clear as day rather than some jumbled mess that makes no sense to anyone haha.
I haven’t really settled on a theme yet. I’m more in the play around, learn (and probably break stuff) mode, so just using the default 2020 before I find and buy one.
Is it really just author pages, or links to them, that show the usernames in the source code, or is there more stuff too that I probably just haven’t come across yet?
It depends on the theme, whether you enable author archive pages, etc. If you’re the only author on a site, I don’t see the point of the “posted by” link on each post; an “about” page would suffice. If it’s a mutli-author site, then it’s good to be able to know who write each post.
Yeah, it would just be myself doing posts, so I get your point there. So usually there’s a way to remove that posted by and about the author from the pages by default you think?
and sorry about that other post, wasn’t trying to do a duplicate, thought that was more a feature request/explanation area for like WP overall, wasn’t trying to make a mess of the forums
How the author meta is posted depends on the theme, so pick a theme and then check back.
