Website Slower on AMP?
-
Just ran my website through the Google Mobile Speed Test and it comes up 2 seconds slower using AMP than the main website.
Seems like I’m flogging a dead horse here…

Can you please share your website URL? So we can analyze it and help you fix the issue for you?
For website details, check the post below
For this thread though, Google mobile test for my main website is running at 3.3 secs on a 4G network, which allowing for all of the css and javascript in there is only to be expected.
Your mobile page speed is 3.3 seconds on a 4G connection. The AMP version however is twice the speed at 6.8 secs on the same 4G connection.
PAGE SPEED 6.8 seconds Your current page speed on 4G networks is slow.We understand your issue. And thanks for sharing data. So please share your website URL. After testing we can analyze and help you to fix it.
Sure, the URL for analysis is https://www.midlandsmaidens.com/amp/
Just checked my source code for the AMP version, and whereas all images on the main website are served as .webp images, they’re all served as .jpg or .png on the AMP version.
Maybe that’s got something to do with it?We checked your issue. We tested your website in 2 tools(page insight and mobile friendly). But we didn’t get any time after speed checking. can you please tell me which tool is used to test for your website?
Yes, it’s Google Mobile Speed Test.
Bit of an error on my part, I’d got mobile redirection running on the website which has now been turned off.
The results for my main website are nowPAGE SPEED 2.8 seconds Your current page speed on 4G networks is slow.which as the title suggests is the main website with all of the css and javascript and .webp images.
The results for my AMP vaersion are nowPAGE SPEED 3.6 seconds Your current page speed on 4G networks is slow.which should theoretically be much faster as it runs AMP.
So from the url above, try using midlandsmaidens.com as the original version, and midlandsmaidens.com/amp/ for the AMP version. We are testing on the same tool. But we didn’t get that search result. So can you please share the URL of the testing tool and a screenshot of the bug where the error Google can be reported?
Website used for testing:

Full page screenshot of MY website tested on Google Mobile Speed Test, WITHOUT AMP activated and just using a responsive variant:

Full page screenshot of MY website tested on Google Mobile Speed Test, WITH Amp activated and using full AMP technology to bring my mobile speed down to a minimum compared to WordPress responsive themes:

…and as you can see quite clearly, the AMP version takes longer to load than the responsive mobile version.
QED.
