Hi Hal, have you tried Role Manager? Even though it says for WP version 2.6, it seems to work well on my 2.8.4 installation.
Cheers,
Gene
hi gene
yeah i have tried role manager but still you can’t assign a user the ability to edit their own comments on any post no matter weather they started the post or not.
It just doent work.
There needs to be the following settings
Add/reply own Comment
Edit own comment
Delete own comment
Read own comment
Read others comments
Add own post
Edit own post
Delete own post
Read own post
Read others posts
Currently there isn’t the whole ‘own’ focus to roles
There is private & others.
This is stopping useres from being able to edit their own comments.
Unless anyone else can work this out cos it’s not obvious to me.
I like role manager but it doesn’t quite go far enough.
Hello
Try to install role-scoper.
Do nothing else and perhaps …
It’s good for me.
Hello
Plugin capability manager is better and easier. Work fine and post category for author.(omarvellous)

Hi there, I have mentioned this issue in other forums but so far don’t have any conclusions. I am beginning to think this is because there is a problem that nobody wants to really look at.
Anyway here goes.
There is no role or as far as i can tell any possibiblty or setting up a role that:
Allows a user to comment on posts
Allows a user to start posts (threads)
Allows a user to edit their own comments on other peoples posts (thread)
Not allow a user to edit everyone elses comments
Not allow a user to edit somebody elses posts (threads)
None of the default roles have this ability (although i would have though contributor would have) This is probably how i would have described a contributor, as somebody that can contribute and edit their own posts or comments.
I have tried role scoper, which comes close but even when set correctly (as far as it should be according to the tick boxes) it doesn’t work.
I have tried playing around with adminize as well and even a combo of the above two plugin don’t bear fruit.
Is this an issue with the core?
It seems like a bit of an oversight as I would certainly want user to be able to login post a comment and be able to edit their own comment, no matter what post it was on (the closest i come to this seem to only allow editing their own comments when they started the post.?
Please help , i am sure I’m not the only person with this issue
Also i am using P2 but it is the same on themes i have tried.
