Facebook Connect Plugin Slowness

Okay –

First, why is there no page in the wordpress directory for this popular plugin? http://www.sociable.es/facebook-connect/

Is it not official or something?

Second – although it works great, YSLow shows that it uses a huge amount of resources and I’d like to reduce that. Just look at http://www.triplepundit.com and you’ll see under some areas half the messages are related to this plugin.

Does anyone have experience with reducing the load of this plugin? Are the other facebook plugins that do the same thing you might recomend instead?
