I have had a similar request once before and I am not really sure how I would go about it. Perhaps I could add a section to have the user generate screenshots. Since another plugin has done it, then it definitely seems within the realm of possibilities. I will keep you posted on adding this type of feature.
That’s brilliant, thanks for considering =)
Would anyone else who may be reading this be able to give us a helping hand in adding automatically generated screenshots to the plugin?

Since I am in the middle of working on a new version, I will take a look at the code used in MyLinks and see if I could add it to the other features that I am currently developing (search, paging, new admin panel).
I did not manage to get screenshot creation in Link Library 2.5 as I wanted to get it out there.
However, this will be the next item on my list in the next few weeks.
I took a look at MyLinks’ code and the way that they handle site screenshots is to rely on a German site called Bildesel.de to generate the screenshot and to keep a cache of recently generated thumbnails.
Simple, but not very clean.
My preference would be using a service where you can save off thumbnails to your own web site and then only re-generate them on request.
http://www.thumbalizr.com seems to be such a site. I mainly need time to study their API and see how I can incorporate it into Link Library.
I’ll keep you informed on my progress on that.
I know it was a long time coming. But version 3.0 add a new button to allow users to automatically generate screenshots for all of their links and store them locally. Version 3.0 will be available a bit later tonight.
Is it possible to exclude some categories from showing thumbnails? The feature is fine but I don´t want to show thumbnails in my blogroll on the frontpage
You can configure whether images are shown on a per setting set basis? Are you only using one setting set for all instances of Link Library? You would need to create two sets, one with images enabled and one without. Let me know if you need further instructions in achieving this.
