Multiple blogs on the same database?

I host my website (and WordPress blog) on hiwaay.com. I want to establish a second blog, but Hiwaay only provides (as part of hosting) a single database (!). I’d have to purchase a second one.

This may sound stupid, but employing the old dictum “there are no stupid questions”, I have to ask: can I set up a second blog and have it use the same database? Just so I won’t sound completely stupid, I wondered if, since databases are just tables of data, why couldn’t two separate blogs coexist in the same database? [I suspect that the simplistic database employed here probably DOES prohibit such sharing, but asking the question is free. Buying a 2nd database is not].
