• I don’t think I was using the latest wordpress software. My site was hacked in the last day or so. The hackers have changed my wordpress.org username and password and I cannot get back into my account.

I am going to have my server host (lunarpages) restore a back up from Sunday. Will this potentially allow me to access my wordpress account with my old username and password?

Is there a way I can restore my password and username now so that I can see if I can restore my blog without having my server restore with a backup?

    Thanks,
    Sheryl

  • See the following video on how to change your password via phpMyAdmin.

If you have access to the backend database, you can update the values in wp_users (at a minimum, change user_login, user_nicename and user_email). Then use the “Lost your password?” option on the login page to get a new password.

Passwords are stored in a special hash formatting (see phpass 0.1) if you want to get your geek on. But, really it’s much easier to go the password reset route!
