Updating WordPress from old db to new

    Hi,

    I am working on a MAC using MAMP(free version.) I am working with a multisite version of WP: 3.3.2 and I need just the post/images/pages from the main website. I have backed up the old mysql database and I want to grab all the post/pages/images and import it into the most recent version of wordpress. I read that I should start with the original version of wordpress that the database was created in.

    To my knowledge I have followed these directions to the letter, I have updated the siteurl, and home. Along with updating the domain/path since it is locally on my computer now.

    The issue I am running into is that I get to the dashboard, and I see all the options on the left hand bar (post/media/links/pages/etc), but when I click on any of those links I just get a white screen in the main view.

    This could be due to your PHP version. The older versions of WordPress did not support all the versions of PHP that the new ones do, and could even have some PHP 4 stuff.

    You might be better off updating your WP version on your MAC and then exporting the data for your new site.
    There is a plugin called WP Downgrade which allows you to chose the version to go to. If you update your MAC to WP 4.4 or so, then export your data, you can start your new one at 4.4 and go up to latest there (that’s assuming your PHP is at least 5.6.40 for WP 5.2). WP will soon raise the minimum PHP to 7, so be aware. You can use the PHP Compatibility Checker plugin to scan your theme and plugins for PHP version issues.

    Thank you the trick was to read the DEBUG file in wpcontent/error_log.txt.
