hmm do you maybe have some other plugin related to users or registration which could conflict with WPAdverts? If you do then please try disabling it and see if it helps.
One note the email address you enter in the Email field in the registration form is always being used as the user_name, please check in wp-admin / Users if there isn’t already a user using the email address you are trying to save.
It would be also helpful if you could send a link to that page where you are having this problem, thanks.

Will try disabling other plugins and see if that helps. The odd things is that even though it was saying the username already exists, it still registered the new user in the authors list.
Will try the plugins idea and let you know how i get on.

Ohh ok thanks for the feedback, from your description it looks like the registration function was for some reason run twice (first call registered the user and the second returned an error).
This technically should never happen as the registration should redirect user on success, so maybe what is happening is that there is a problem while saving an Author post or when trying to authenticate the user.

Thanks for all the help. I disabled some plugins and removed other inactive ones and its working perfectly now! Cheers!
Just one other thing if i could ask your advice on… we are looking to hopefully develop a system whereby all users/authors can be allocated a badge or rating depending on how many items they trade. Such as if they sell one item they could have Newbie tag or badge beside them, or if they sell over 20 they could have an expert tag beside them.
Any idea if this can be done with wpadverts?

ok great, i am glad you have it resolved.
As for the badges, out-of-box we do not have such functionality i am afraid, but it is possible to have it custom developed (as a separate plugin without modifying original source code), or in very least integration with some existing plugin like myCRED would be needed.
