    Please help!

    Blog site is: http://3foldcomm.com/blog
    Feed is: http://3foldcomm.com/blog/feed/

The RSS feed for our blog used to work fine, then after the last update it has stopped, only loading a blank page. When I use Feed Validator, I get the following error:

line 1, column 0: XML parsing error: <unknown>:1:0: no element found

I have spent hours on this topic, trying all the suggested fixes (looking for extra lines, changing characters, deactivating plugins, etc.) nothing has worked.

I would be so very very grateful for any assistance! Thanks!

  • Maybe a file got damaged during the update. Try reuploading RSS files, like all the RSS files in wp-includes, and the feed files in your web root, too.

Just retried that. No go. Thanks for the suggestion, but it still isn’t working.

Well, your theme is kicking out a valid URL for the feed, so keep replacing files. Something went wrong during the upgrade….

Do you have a file named feed.php in the main blog folder?

    Yes, I do.

That XML error is occuring on the first line of whatever file the feed generator is trying to use, so try replacing files. Save your theme and any other files you’ve changed and do your upgrade over again

feed.php belongs in the wp-includes folder, not in the main blog folder. It sounds like you have some misplaced files, so like songdogtech suggests, try your upgrade again. You can manually “upgrade” to the same version again. See:

You were absolutely right! Despite reloading all the files, for whatever reason, all the old site files were staying put and must have been causing the issues. I moved all the excess files to another folder and it works again!

Thank you so much for your help!
