I’m trying to update my version of WordPress, but it won’t go.

I followed the upgrade manual on the site. Backupped the db and the site, downloaded the new version. Unzipped it, changed the wp-config. Pulled out all the plugins and used Cyberduck to upload all the new stuff. Then i went to www.(notimportant).nl/wp-admin/upgrade. It said that the database was up to date, but on my dashboard there still is: ‘This is WordPress version 2.6.3. Update to 2.8.4’

Can someone tell me what had happened?

  • are you sure that you got the files uploaded properly. a 2.6.3 > 2.8.4 upgrade should have done more when you browsed to wp-admin/upgrade.php

do it again. only this time delete the old files first.

I’ve tried but with the same result. It said my db didn’t need an upgrade. I moved on to the site, had to logon again but nothing had happened.

    Hi,
I have exactly the same problem as 2Singh. I upgraded from 2.6.1 to 2.8.4. following the step by step instructions. At step 9 when I went to my /wp-admin to upgrade the database I got a message saying the database was up to date, but the admin panel has not been updated. It still says I have v.2.6.1 and I should upgrade to 2.8.4. I tried it all again and the same thing happened.
The only good thing is the site is working, despite being stuck with a version 2.6.1 admin panel.
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks
