    Hi.

I have a BPS and 3 sites on it. All with WordPress and the same theme and the same plugins.

I have had no issues with anything much. I have had the occasional spam comment and I simple click on Bin and its gone.

However, I did get 2 comments about a week or so ago and checked the box for both and selected Bin from the drop down menu and they were moved immediately and the page refreshed though another click gave me nothing but a white page and constant hanging until the connection timed out and I get the time our error page. At that point it was late so I left it and sure enough about 15 mins later all was OK and the comments had been moved to the bin.

When I delete a single comment with the link on the comment everything is OK.

When I delete multiple comments in bulk on ANY site it causes an error on the entire server that every site times out. All sites have a separate database, even a link direct to an image times out, so no database connection is even used.

    Error logs show the following:

[client ***.***.**.**] ModSecurity: Warning. String match "get" at REQUEST_METHOD. [file "/etc/apache2/modsecurity.d/rules/comodo/27_Apps_WPPlugin.conf"] [line "****"] [id "222212"] [rev "2"] [severity "CRITICAL"] [tag "CWAF"] [tag "WPPlugin"] [hostname "www.hereforeverything.co.uk"] [uri "/wp-admin/edit-comments.php"] [unique_id "XTsKpdj4H3uWpbSyN8vIRwAAAEA"], referer: https://www.domain.co.uk/wp-admin/edit-comments.php

I have experienced some issues in the past With MOD SECURITY and WP though those were resolved many months ago and I have never had them issues again.

Many thanks for time looking and an replies.

  • It sounds like you need to get your web hosting company to adjust your ModSecurity settings.

I have a BPS and 3 sites on it.

You probably meant VPS, not BPS?

Looks like your Comodo ModSec rule with ID #222212 isn’t playing nicely with WordPress.

If you’re running a self-managed (aka unmanaged) VPS and must take care of this yourself, kindly temporary relax this particular ModSec rule in your Plesk server control panel (or the entire Comodo ModSec ruleset, if it’s easier to do so), and try deleting multiple comments and let’s see the effect. We need to first isolate the cause of the problem before looking for solutions.

Hi. I did mean VPS yes and the change in settings temporary did solve the issue.

    Thanks for the help 🙂
