According to my hosting admin – smtp should work…the chain si broken somewhere between WP and the host server or gmail ?I’m getting pissed off…

The easiest way to determine if your hosting company’s SMTP outgoing e-mail server is working properly and is setup properly on your web hosting account is to point your e-mail client at your web host’s SMTP server and start sending out some e-mail that way.

I’ve never tried WordPress through my web host’s SMTP server, using the standard php MAIL function instead (with my own custom php coding to create an e-mail to another member feature). Which works fine.

I haven’t heard of the “wp-smtp” you mention. Are you referring to the “WP Mail SMTP” plug-in?

If so, it isn’t supported above Version 2.7 of WordPress.
