In case what whooami says isn’t clear this is a reference to the settings within the admin panel Settings > General. Then look for the following two fields:
- WordPress address (URL)
- Blog address (URL)

I just noticed that when I hover over the image on my home page that it still points to the old .info domain:

This thread seems to apply to my situation but I’m a bit confused in comparing the simple steps described here to the rather frightening and elaborate steps described in the WordPress Codex http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL
My situation is this:
1. I’ve built a WordPress site on a temporary URL issued by the hosting company (http://59.89.etc/etc/etc)
2. I am now ready to point the DNS for the actual domain (www.example.com) to the exact same directory and database etc. used by the temporary URL mentioned above. No files, folders or directories are being moved. Everything is staying exactly where it is.
3. Is it really just as simple as changing the WordPress address and Blog address in the General Settings? If so, why all the elaborate descriptions of changing names in database tables, editing config files etc. described in the wordPress Codex?
I really appreciate any response that helps me make sense of this.

yes it is, as long as you do things in the right order, and thats what the codex is for — reading the directions and following them.

If you read.. those are directions are typically for fixing things after you have NOT followed the directions.

no, you can leave permalinks alone. they don’t look at what domain you’re on, just what comes after the first /.

it makes no difference.
if you change the settings in the backend before the dns change propagates, you will just be redirected back the where the domain ***was*** hosted. Once it propagates it will work.
dns changes can take 72 hours.

I was just concerned about ‘borking’ (new wp word??) the temp set up.
