• Resolved DaleWA

    (@dalewa)

The “Edit with Elementor” link is missing on all pages and posts. My WP install auto updated to 5.2.2 and I discovered this issue after the auto update. I have deactivated ALL plugins except Elementor AND reverted to the default Twenty Nineteen them and the problem still exists. Elementor plugin is the current version, 2.5.16. I am now unable to edit ANY page or post created with Elementor. I do not know how to send the Elementor system info to you via Pastebin. I need to resolve this issue immediately for our production website updates.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • In relation to the missing ‘Edit with Elementor’ link, please check in Elementor > Settings> General Tab if the correct post types are enabled

Does the Edit with Elementor option become available if you open the post using the WordPress editor? Please try going to Pages > All Pages, click “Edit” under the page you wish to edit to launch the WordPress editor and check if you see the blue “Edit with Elementor” button at the top of the page. After you edit a page the first time with Elementor, the “Edit with Elementor” link should be visible from the admin bar and also in the Pages section.

Yes, both Posts and Pages are enabled in Settings.

When editing a Page in the WP editor there is no longer a link or a button to “Edit with Elementor”. All previous pages edited with Elementor only show the page title when trying to edit with the WP editor and none of the page content is visible. There is no longer way to open a page in Elementor, that is the issue.

What if you go to the page on the front end, while logged in? In the admin bar at the top, does the Edit with Elementor link show there?

    (@dalewa)

No, the button does not show up there either. In the Dashboard Elementor Overview it shows the last pages & posts edited with Elementor. If I click the Edit pencil by one of the pages, it takes me to the list of Posts even though the item I clicked on was a page. Still no way to open Elementor.

You should be able to scroll down to the bottom of the System Info page and just select the entire section of text, copy it, and paste it here. That may not give us any useful info, but it’s worth a shot.

I’m not sure what else to check. Perhaps reinstall Elementor. But seeing the System Info might give us another clue.

I have deactivated and reactivated Elementor. I have also deactivated, deleted, and installed the plugin new. None of these enabled “Edit with Elementor”. Here is the sys info:

Well, Memory limit: -1 is certainly suspicious. Please increase your memory limit using the instructions here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP

This is a staging site using wp-staging? If so, that may be the issue as well. Every now and then, I’ve seen wp-staging sites go a little off-kilter – all before Elementor was a product, but still…it’s possible the staging site didn’t get set up correctly. Or the WP update messed it up somehow.

I just cloned the the production site for this staging site to troubleshoot this issue so I could use the default theme and turn off all plugins. It does exactly replicate the problem behavior of the production site. We can’t take down the production site to turn off plugins and change the theme at this time.

Not able to figure out how to change memory allocation yet.

Are you able to edit the pages by adding this at the end of the url:
    /?elementor

    Thread Starter DaleWA

    (@dalewa)

I have tracked down the problem! My administrator account has a secondary role assigned to it that does not include Elementor permission. Apparently that was overriding the Administrator permission. Thank you so much for your assistance is trying to resolve this issue.

Happy to hear you found the problem. I probably wouldn’t have guessed that one.
