I run a shop powered by WooCommerce, selling physical goods – that all works brilliantly (thanks!)

Now I want to launch an online course, and I would like existing customers to be able to use their existing customer account to purchase this course (previous attempts have been frustrating as customers get v confused about having different accounts). I would also like new course students to create a customer account.

Basically – each user has one account, whether course student, customer, or both.

Importantly: I would like the course to be charged in a different currency (USD) to my regular store (GBP).

Is this doable? Any add-ons you recommend to help me manage this? I currently use PayPal as my only payment method.

Thanks so much for any guidance here

    Beth

    Hi there,

WooCommerce itself wouldn’t play much of a role here since the bulk of the online courses would be handled by a standalone plugin – only integrating with WooCommerce for tha actual payments part.

In terms of the single user account, most Learning Management System plugin for WordPress allows one account to be used for both orders and courses. The ones that you’ll want to consider include Sensei and Learndash.

In terms of using different currencies on a per-product basis, you’ll definitely need an extension for that as well. Woo has https://woocommerce.com/products/multi-currency/ although that’s for the store as a whole, not individual products. Careful thought should be given to this, however, what happens if the customer has a GBP and USD product in the cart? As far as I know, PayPal only allows for a single currency to be used within the same checkout process.

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
