• Hi folks,
I just finished up a 1.3a5 theme to allow me to integrate WP smoothly into an existing site with a multi-column layout; I’d be glad for any feedback on how it all integrates together — i.e., how does it look not so much as a WP installation, but as an integrated sub-section of the existing site?

If layouts of this general type are of interest to people, I might be able to set aside some time to create something more general for others to use. (No guarantees on quantity of time, but people have been very helpful to me here on the forum, and I sure appreciate the time *they* have spent; so offering some of my own time back to the WP community seems like a good idea to me. SO, if you’d be interested in this sort of layout for your own purposes, please let me know.)
    Known niggles:
    — Safari doesn’t support min-height, so short posts will have the right-hand column in the main content area slipping down below the edge of the main content area. I’m willing to live with this due to the way I’d like to order content in the page source (which requires absolute positioning for the right-hand column).
    — Firefox produces a 1px jog at certain font sizes when using the ‘sliding doors’ technique for liquid box backgrounds. I’ve tried to expunge this by changing where I size text, but to little avail. Oh, well.
    — Mac IE sometimes mildly flakes out on its rendering of the sliding doors background for the main content area. Oh, well.
    — Because this is integrated into an existing site, there are two totally separate search interfaces for finding content. Bad news. Haven’t decided what to do about that yet.
    Many thanks for any thoughts!
    Greg

  • It looks fine to me. Though I think it’s a little cluttered and lots of “white spaces”. Other than than, the left panel of all the topics looks good!
If you would,,, whats “niggles”? Thats the first time i’ve seen such?

    Hi mpower,
    Thanks for your thoughts!
niggles def.= ‘little things that bug me’ 🙂
Are there any things that particularly stand out as clutter? When you say lots of white spaces, do you mean on short entries, where min-height is set to keep that right-hand column from overflowing the bottom border? (Or maybe just too much white space in general?)
    Thanks again,
    Greg

    It looks smart.
You seem to have two colour schemes going, a purple one and a blue one. I’d just stick to one or the other, ie, if you made the column on the left and your link colours purple, then the site would have a more uniform look. You could make a blue skin later, if you really can’t decide between purple and blue.
