I have a problem with tax calculation: at checkout, when someone selects a country outside of the Netherlands (shop base country), the prices are automatically recalculated with VAT deducted.

This is not the way it should be, there should first be a VAT number check to see if the customer is eligible for vat exemption. I use a plugin for the evidence. The problem is the same with or without this plugin activated.

The way I have set woocommerce up:

    • one standard tax rate for the netherlands of 21%
    • product prices entered including vat and tax status taxable
    • prices displayed in shop, basket, checkout including vat

Would be great if anyone knows what’s wrong…

    Hi there!

Just to confirm, customers that set a country other than the Netherlands, doesn’t get charged tax, correct?

Reading how you have set up your taxes, that is the expected behavior since you only have set up a tax rate for the Netherlands – one standard tax rate for the netherlands of 21%

If you want to charge tax to customers outside of the Netherlands, you will have to set up those tax rates as well.

Alternatively, you can set it so that taxes are based on your shop location, the Netherlands, and not the customer’s location – https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/setting-up-taxes-in-woocommerce/#section-4

Ah you’re right, I solved it by removing the county code from the tax rate line. Now all prices are shown with the 21% for all countries 🙂
