Hi forestlorde,
I’m sorry you’ve run into issues with this! There shouldn’t be any lingering effects from the way you uninstalled the plugin, however sometimes email providers will block emails entirely rather than sending them to spam. So most likely you’re seeing a continuation of the original email delivery issue you ran into.
You did have the right idea, though! A plugin like WP Mail SMTP will authenticate your emails, which is what allows them to deliver successfully.
Based on your description, I’d recommend trying the following steps:
1) Re-install WP Mail SMTP on your site.
2) Follow our step by step tutorial to complete the setup process. We have a separate tutorial for each mailer:
– Google
– SendGrid
– Mailgun
– Other SMTP
3) If you still see issues (which hopefully won’t happen), then please share details about what you see after sending the test email mentioned in the tutorial.
I hope this helps you to get things back up and running!
Hello,
I reinstalled WP Mail SMTP plugin and followed the instructions to configure with Google’s Gmail.
I made progress as the test email successfully arrived in my inbox.
However, I am still not receiving emails from my website (not even in Spam). I even waited (approximately) 24 hours and retested, just in case it needed to time to take affect. I don’t understand how the test email went through successfully but I am still not receiving emails.
Please advise!
Hi forestlorde,
In most cases where we see the test email work but emails still not delivering properly, it’s because the From Email doesn’t match what you’ve set up in WP Mail SMTP.
So for the next step, you’ll need to check that all From Email settings on your site match the Gmail/G Suite email that you used to set up WP Mail SMTP.
I hope this helps! 🙂
The emails all match. I’ve only ever used two: my personal email to first set everything up and then I switched all my email settings over to the Gmail account.
I did double check, just to be sure, but they are all the Gmail account. Also, the WordPress Simple Contact Form and the WP Mail SMTP both state that Gmail overrides the From Email setting and uses whatever email I used to set it up, which would have been that Gmail account.
I also just tried to send another test email and still nothing.
I’m at a loss. 🙁
Hi forestlorde,
You’re right about the From Email, sorry about that 🙂
I understand that this likely won’t be an appealing option, but here’s what I’d recommend: starting the whole Google app process over again using the Gmail account.
While restarting can be frustrating in its own way, in my experience this is the single best way to make totally sure that everything is set up exactly right for this Gmail email (and not any other). In case it helps, here’s the link to our Google mailer tutorial.
Last — if you give that try and things still don’t work, you could as a backup try the Other SMTP mailer. I just would recommend trying to redo the steps for the Google mailer first, since that option is more secure.
Please let me know how this goes!
Hi forestlorde,
We haven’t heard back from you in a couple of weeks, so I’m going to go ahead and mark this thread as closed. But please feel welcome to continue the conversation if you’d like!
Thanks 🙂
