On my site, certain oEmbed content appears within comments and others don’t. For example, embedding a YouTube URL causes the video to appear, but embedding an Instagram URL just creates a clickable link to the content.

I put my site into Troubleshooting Mode and the situation became even worse: Both the YouTube and Instagram URLs didn’t embed. (However, when I exited Troubleshooting Mode, the YouTube embed worked.)

oEmbed appears to be working properly within my posts, including for Instagram. It’s only within comments that this issue occurs.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi,

oEmbeds in comments is not a thing in the core version of WordPress. Are you using Jetpack, by any chance? I suspect that is adding the oEmbeds – in this case, you’ll need to raise your query with them.

This will also explain why the oEmbeds stopped working when used Troubleshooting Mode, as this switches off all plugins (Jetpack included).

Don’t think Jetpack does that, actually. Not for comments.

You may have some other plugin doing it. Basic debug principle: disable things one by one until it stops, then you know what’s doing it.

Edit: What I mean is that oembeds are not supposed to work in comments. So you have something enabling that for youtube specifically.
