I have an problem, I just installed wordpress 5.1.1 on my localhost as a clean install. When I try to edit a page in the page editor a error message is shown.

I can add a title to the page, but no content. The error is also shown when I click the plus icon to add a block and when I hover over the empty space below the title. But strangely enough a installation I did yesterday works fine. I installed both versions form the same zip file. A did an third install today and it has the same problem. This error only seems to occur in firefox.

The error message I can copy form the pop-up says the following, where localhost/client/sonor/ is the path on my localhost.

At any point did you also install the latest Gutenberg plugin?

I just ran into this myself about an hour ago, I had to fully un-and-re-install Firefox to clear it. Everything was fine under the Gutenberg plugin, but once I deactivated it, the errors started appearing in the editor.

It seems like something is getting lodged in Firefox’s browser storage that it is not flushing via conventional Clear Recent History means, which sounds like a bug in Firefox.

A quick note, Gutenberg is now built into WordPress as of WordPress 5. The Gutenberg plugin simply adds new beta features that are being tested. It is no longer required to use the block editor.

It looks like this will address the issue going forward in the Gutenberg plugin: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/14706

However, I still think something’s up in Firefox, since Clear Recent History is supposed to flush its local storage too, but I had to fully uninstall it to do the job.

Try this: open the console and run localStorage.clear(); This worked for me, and all is fine now… Using chrome, win 7 pro, Xampp php7.2

Thanks! I’ll give that a shot the next time it happens!

This situation repeats consistently for me using Chrome, macOS 10.14.3, php 7.1.26. But stops when the Gutenberg Plugin 5.3.0 is installed. Although there are other problems with that setup, namely missing Reusable Blocks functions.

I kinda tried to run that localStorage.clear(); command with no effect, but really had no idea what I was doing.

@macmanx you’re responding with resources faster than I can type a reply. I’ll give those a try.

BTW, what do you use for a database to find and pull up those links? It can’t be all in memory!

    I just searched at https://duckduckgo.com/ 🙂

Thanks for the feedback and sources.

As @dlfuller stated, localStorage.clear(); does not work.
I opened the inspector(Right click > Q) and found the storage tab( You might need to active it in the inspector settings) and removed all my cookies related to the website by right clicking on a cookie from that site en clicking remove all form '...'. Then I logged in again and all problems were fixed.

But this should not happen, so there is probably something wrong in WordPress or in Firefox.

    (@macmanx)

It’s definitely a problem in both.

The problem in WordPress’s editor is being fixed: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/14706

Meanwhile, clearing localstorage via conventional means should … clear localstorage. That is apparently not the case in Firefox right now. 🙁

    Thanks for the work-around!
