    Hi All,

So I am a little baffled. I can not for the life of me find the “Revisions” of pages anymore. It appears a new version if WP has removed them? I have 3 sites, and all 3 are gone.

What happened? And how do I get them back? I have just completed a fresh install for a new site, and no page revisions? πŸ™

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers
    John

Note: moved from installing wordpress to everything else wordpress.

Hmm.. Do we have to use the Gutenberg Editor? My theme does not come with it. πŸ™

Ok – Installed the Gutenberb editor, and still no revisions. WP 5.1. What am I missing???

You don’t “install” Gutenberg. The Block Editor is part of WordPress 5.x. If you installed the Gutenberg plugin, remove it. Do you have the Classic Editor plugin installed? If so, that disables the block editor.

OK – Deleted the Gutenberg Plugin.

I don’t see the Classic Editor Plugin listed – no.

So I take for granted that you see and use the new block editor.
(Some plugins and themes use special tools to instruct WordPress to continue using the previous editor, TinyMCE).

When you start drafting a post, there’s no history, and therefore no revisions.
When you have only saved a draft or published ONCE, there’s still no list of additional revisions.

But the moment you’ve saved your post a second time (unless you’ve somewhere limited the number of revisions to “1”), the side panel in the “Document” view will have an entry about “xx revisions” next under the section “Status & Visibility”.

Hmm Sadly no! I have saved my pages probably 30 times by now lol! I have been working on this new site for a couple of weeks. No revision.

The theme is WPLMS, and I think they have raped the code shockingly, so no revisions. Is that possible?

Some hosts (like WP Engine) restrict post revisions because they don’t want sites to run these processes on their networks. Contact your host and ask them if they restrict post revisions. You should be able to see this in the /wp-config.php file.

Ahh… I am on WP Engine. Ok…. I will ask!

    Thanks for the heads up!

    That was the problem. Sheesh!!!

I have just enabled them, and now they work perfectly. Thanks for look past the forrest to see the trees Tony. Much appreciated.

    Ha! No problem.

I’m a WP Engine Agency Member Partner, so have been with them forever. I once had the same question as you and couldn’t figure it out for the life of me either. So, you’re not alone. It’s not clear that they do this. They also try to limit it to 3 revisions if they do turn it on. Just a way to keep them from having to run thousands of processes they don’t have to run.

Thanks heaps. I understand why they do it, but they really should make it clear they do.

    Thanks again.
