Thumbnails generation

Is there a script (doesn’t have to be wordpress), that can generate thumbnails of all images in directories I specify and output them to a single page with links to their bigger brothers?
I know I’m asking alot… but I would very much like this feature, as I have just started a photoblog / portfolio.
