Hi, there will be two sitemaps you can enable or disable on your Settings > Reading admin page: (1) XML Sitemap Index and (2) Google News Sitemap
You can disable the regular sitemap (index) and enable only the News sitemap, no problem 🙂
how do you pick the category that should be news?
Once you activated the option Google News Sitemap on Settings > Reading, there will be a new admin page Settings > Google News where you can select one or more categories. When NO category is selected, it will default to ALL categories.
The options for post types are not how articles news articles are categorized… so then how do I add news only article?
ok think i fiexed it but google is giving me an erro
I’m not sure what you mean… you can select your news post type on Settings > Google News too but make sure to deselect all categories first because a selected category might not belong to the preferred post type, which would mean there will never be news item in your news sitemap.
If you can share a link to your news sitemap, I can take a look to see what might be wrong.
I get this error from Google

Your news sitemap looks okay. Passing it though the online validator on https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.html shows no errors.
