Not sure why it’s happening. If you give me url of the webpage where you are facing this issue, would be able to help.
You can check yourself. The Twitcount API https://counts.twitcount.com/counts.php?url=https://www.paukenpress.com/how-we-got-our-bibles-part-2-catholic-and-evangelical-errors/ is returning 1 as the number of Twitter shares for your webpage. You can replace https://www.paukenpress.com/how-we-got-our-bibles-part-2-catholic-and-evangelical-errors/ in the mentioned API with the url of any other webpage and check the number of Twitter shares yourself.
Yes, I know, because I manually had to set it. I’m writing a post now and in the preview, it says it has 34 shares, which is obviously not true. I’m setting the share count to zero and the post preview still says 34.
Shares are tracked on url basis. The urls of preview page and the published page are different. That’s why there is difference.
I’m setting the share count to zero and the post preview still says 34.
Share count options for individual post/page are for the published version of that page/post. Why are you concerned about the shares of the preview of a page?
Here’s an example from a post I just published. Immediately upon publishing it said that the share count was 34. https://www.paukenpress.com/behold-our-triune-god-reflections-on-the-trinity-conference/
If is showing 4 shares for Facebook. You can check yourself the shares returned by the API supported by Facebook for social shares https://graph.facebook.com/?id=https://www.paukenpress.com/behold-our-triune-god-reflections-on-the-trinity-conference/
