Unable to Export XML

    Hi,

    I have been unable to perform an XML Export from my WordPress dashboard. When I try, nothing happens after clicking for minutes then finally I get an error message “Page not found” or a gateway timeout. When looking at my CPanel I see my CPU usage is maxed out.

    My host Nativespace have been extremely helpful in trying to fix this, and have been trying to do so for the last week, but with no success.

    Their early investigations showed the export is failing due to maximum execution time exceeded.. They increased all the PHP limits in the server such as max_execution_time, memory_limit, upload and post max limits but it is still failing without generating any error messages.

    They checked server configuration & logs but couldn’t locate the cause.

    They then migrated the site to another server but this still hasn’t fixed it.

    The say the export.php script which is responsible for exporting the content of the site is using the whole server resources trying to export it but failing.

    So they’re unable to either find out what is causing it or fix the issue.

    I would be grateful for any help, or suggestions for any other means of downloading a full XML backup.

    Instead of exporting the whole site you’re probably going to have to select ‘posts’ and if that fails you’ll need to divide that down further and further yet.

    Same with pages and then, etc. etc. etc.

    Pain in the neck and when I’ve had to do that I kept notes and zipped all the results up into one compressed zip file.

    If you’ll tell us what your goal here really is we might be able to help further.

    If you’re wishing to create a backup you might consider a backup plugin instead.

    If it’s the database you might either use a backup plugin again or export the database via PHPMyAdmin or Adminer.

    If you’re trying to backup media you might look at FTP of that specific directory.

    And etc. again.
