• When any page from my site comes up in the Google search results, my meta description (as defined in the all in one seo pack plugin) is always preceded by the date that the post was published.

    I can’t figure out why the date is being given such high relevance here, as it isn’t something that I’ve manually set. Anyone know how to remove it?

  • Try add within your head tags next:

    <meta name="robots" content="noodp,noydir" />

    That should leave the description the way it is.

    This is just a Google thing, not a WordPress or plugin issue. I don’t think that there is anything you can do about it.

    noodp and noydir are used to prevent Google from using your DMOZ or Yahoo! Directory listing descriptions (if you have them) for meta descriptions.

    True. While you have a description, google should use that, but I am not wondering if adds something else. So nothing to much to do about. Ask a SEO specialist, they might now.

    Hi, I’m wondering if anyone has discovered a solution for this. I am having the same issue — but it only cropped up when I changed my post permalink format to %post-title% and stopped using dates in permalinks.

    Now my listings are showing up like this:

    Tantra, Devotion and Inquiry | Tantra Satsang | Jaya Kula
    Jul 16, 2009 … When we are not softened by a feeling of devotion and relieved of our dogma by a spirit of free inquiry, we cannot fully receive …

    It’s really annoying because the date is taking up valuable character space.

    ????

    I’m having the same problem too! Need help urgently.
