• Hello,

I am going to use WordPress to create my new website. My website currently only displays some of the work I do (pretty much an online portfolio). I want to integrate a blog with my site, but I also want to use WordPress like a photoblog for an online portfolio of my work.

I guess my first question is: Should my homepage be entirely run by WordPress, or should I have a regular homepage and integrate elements of WordPress into it? Are there disadvantages to making my homepage a WordPress blog? (such as flexibility with the type of content I can put on my website)

As far as the photoblog/portfolio part goes, I am hoping I will be able to make posts to the blog that consist of a single large image, and caption for the image. From the homepage, in the portfolio section, a visitor will be able to select an image category, which will display thumbnail-sized posts of all the posts in that category (I’m hoping I can use CSS to change the size of the image for these “thumbnail” previews) then when the visitor clicks on a “thumbnail” post, they will be taken to that post’s individual page (where the CSS would show the image full size)

I think I will leave it at that for now because i am confusing myself just typing it out 😛

Thanks for any tips with this!

    Ian

  • I am a little new but I can tell you that a blog is the best way to keep your site updated. I believe you should go with the WordPress blog as your homepage, you can edit the homepage to your liking!

There are many photo galleries on the Internet that you can integrate on your website.

    Hope that helps!

    Thanks for the reply 🙂

It does look like I can put any html element on my WordPress page as I could with a regular website

I have looked through many of the photo galleries available online, but none of them offer the simple storing, tagging, and searching capabilities that a blog offers. As long as I am able to use CSS to make my blog posts LOOK like a gallery, I think this would be the best solution for me.

I have looked at photoblog software like pixelpost, but I figure if I am going to have a regular blog, why not integrate both my portfolio of images and regular postings in one solution.

I have also tried YAPB but it didn’t work with WP2.8 and if I can already put images on my blog posts than what more do I really need?

I guess I am just trying to get tips and suggestions from people who have done similar things with wordpress.
