Finally

All I can say is: finally. WordPress is maturing and becoming accessible.
I’ve been working with Gutenberg and the standard Twenty Nineteen theme now for about a month, and it works well (95% of the time). For more complex themes etc. of course all of this will be a bit of a complicated transition, but not having to use all these third party shortcodes and visual editing plugins will surely clear everything up in the long run.
