The number of posts on the homepage is controlled by the WordPress core and it is theme independent. In order to change it, please go to Settings -> Reading and change the number next to Blog pages show at most option from the default 10 to 6.
After that, click “Save Changes” button.
If you don’t see any change after that, please empty your browser’s cache.

Thanks for the reply. The settings on the “Blog pages show at most” is set to 6, but I’m still getting an unlimited number of posts on the homepage. Cache has been emptied. Is there any other way I can change this setting directly on theme or editor?

If that setting doesn’t have any effect then there’s something else involved that’s causing the issue.
Could you temporarily disable all of your plugins and see if the number of posts fixes itself? If it does, start enabling plugins one by one and reloading the homepage until it breaks again. Then you’ll know what’s causing it.
