• I’ve tried to make some new galleries after WordPress 5 came out, but I can’t make them look like the ones I made in earlier versions.

    Here is a new gallery:

The last thumbnail covers the full width, but I would like it to be the same size as all the others. Also, in my old galleries the thumbnails were square with a thin white line between them. In my new galleries thumbnail size varies from row to row.

Here is what the old ones look like:

How do I create new galleries that look like the old ones?

Also noticed just now that whichever image I click on in the galleries, the first one always open.

Thanks for your reply. This is not a Lightbox or a plugin, but the standard WordPress gallery. The only difference is that the new one was created in WordPress 5, and the old one in an earlier version.

    Are you using Jetpack?

I am using Jetpack, but turning Jetpack galleries on or off does not affect the way the thumbnails look. I have used Jetpack för my galleries in the past, so I’d like to continue doing that.

I did not update the Hueman theme, but I did update WordPress itself. Also, my old galleries still look correct.

I don’t think Wp 5 changes how galleries look on the front end. Comparing the two pages, the CSS and HTML markup differs. Which editor are you using to create the post and gallery?

I’m using the built-in new editor in WordPress 5.

Yes, it seems that the gallery block produces a different kind of gallery. If you use a “classic” block, you can create the other style.

Or, install the plugin “classic editor” and use the old editor.

Of course, why didn’t I think of that? Using the classic editor gets me the galleries just like I want them.

    Great idea, thanks!
