Hello,
1. Go to Customize > Header > General and try to increase the bottom padding and check it works or not to fix the header image issue.
2. It is because the image is cropped and display a 100×100 size image. Are you using any image compression/optimization plugin? Also, go to Customize > Blog > Blog Entries and select an image size to fix it.

Amit,
Thanks for the quick and helpful response. That solved the featured image issue.
Your padding suggestion was helpful but didn’t solve the larger problem and the
header issue is still a puzzle to me. There are two sections of controls at appearance/customize/Header:

Header Full Width
Header Border Bottom
Padding (px) t|r|b|l

I have searched for, but been unable to find an support FAQ that explains exactly how the image controls in these two different control sections work and/or interact with each other. I can see the changes I make by just guessing at combinations but I can’t predictably orchestrate an exact sizing and placement of the header I want to place. I want to use a substantialhy narrower header than the 2000×1200 suggested. I would like to find a place that explains each of the above controls and their interdependence. Is there anywhere on the Ocean WP support library that has that?

Okay,
Here is once again – Customize > Header > General (not header media) – then you will see the option for the padding after scroll down the panel. Try to increase only the bottom padding.
