I just found out Apple and Google’s Messages apps are implementing an image preview of links printed within them. I want SMS containing an url created at wordpress admin backend to print the post’s image, like in a commercial message. Instead I’m getting my website’s logo image in all SMS messages.

Does anybody know how to work around this? Thanks in advance.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi,

I haven’t looked specifically at the Google Messages app… but I’ll bet it’s leveraging the same OpenGraph data that all social media and other messaging apps use.

That basically means if you already have preview thumbnails working with your links shared on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, etc… it will also work with these rich SMS messaging apps.

    1) Set the proper FEATURED IMAGE in your WordPress posts and pages, as you should.
    2) If your theme doesn’t already support OpenGraph, use a plugin like WordPress SEO Plugin by Yoast which automatically, among other things, adds the necessary OG tags.

It worked. Also this website lets you find out if a (your) app is implementing Open Graph meta tags: https://opengraphcheck.com

    Thank you George.
