    It would be awesome if you could give me some advise how to solve following issue.
    My thumbnails should be quadratic – but the popup should show a different size.
    The challenge is to use two different images: one small quadratic and the 2nd one in a nice popup with 980px 480px (for example)
    Do you have a solution for me?

    Hello

    Usually thumbnails are wrapper with <a> tag which contains a link to an original image and this image is shown into the lightbox. If your gallery generate square thumbnails and use original image in the tag then non-square image will be loaded into the lightbox. This feature should be supported by gallery plugin which you use.
