• Hi,

I recently bought a domain and tried to link it to my WordPress but now all it says is “this site can’t be reached” and I have no way of getting into my WordPress to change it back!

I looked it up online but no luck, people said something like change the options panel in Phpadmin but I’m VERY new at this and I don’t know what that means or where to go for that!

Please help in the most basic way possible if you can please! And also, why wouldn’t my domain work? Is there a special domain you need to link WordPress with or something?

    Thank you in advance,
    Katie

You need to to create an A record for the domain and the WWW subdomain; you have no DNS Records at this point.

    [sdstern@sds-desk ~]$ nslookup katiehennessy.ie
    Server: 208.67.222.222
    Address:	208.67.222.222#53

    Non-authoritative answer:
    *** Can't find katiehennessy.ie: No answer

    [sdstern@sds-desk ~]$ whois katiehennessy.ie
    [Querying whois.domainregistry.ie]
    [whois.domainregistry.ie]

    Domain: katiehennessy.ie
    Domain Holder:
    Admin-c: BBK130-IEDR
    Tech-c: AAA906-IEDR
    Account Name: Elive
Registrar Abuse Contact: Service not supported currently
    Registration Date: 12-October-2018
    Renewal Date: 12-October-2019
    Holder-type:
    Locked status: NO
    Renewal status: Active
    In-zone: 1
    Nserver: dns.elive.net
    Nserver: dns.elive.ie
    Nserver: dns.elive.me

Contact your host to find out the correct IP address for your site, then go to elive.net to update the DNS records.

Oh okay, I’ll give that a go. Sorry for the silly question but my host would be WordPress, wouldn’t it?

Also another question but kind of similar, do WordPress also give me FTP credentials? I installed a theme and need help with it and they asked for these FTP credentials and I figured it would be from them.

    Thanks again!

No, you are using WordPress software on whatever hosting you’ve purchased. The host also assigns FTP accounts, though if WP is asking for FTP credentials, it usually means that the file ownership or permissions of the WP install are incorrect — which also needs to be addressed with the host.

Oh okay I understand now, yes I know the hosting site you mean, I put my DNS details into the site where I got my domain so it should be okay now.

Will this allow me to get back into my WordPress? Will I need the localhost way anymore?

If you’ve moved your site to the host, then you use that, not localhost.
