• Hi all,

New to WordPress, I created a category, for our children’s book reviews, and created a post and gave it that category.

I then went to Menus and added the category to the menu, so it appeared on the main site navigation menu on the site.

However when you click that link on the menu it shows posts in all categories.

I tried setting up another category for our YA Books, did a test post and that appears in the children’s, ya and blog section.

How wrong have I got all of this?

    Argh!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi James,
    Hope you are doing well.

The approach that you described is correct and the expected bahavior would be to see a list of the posts on that category only.

Just to be totally sure, can you confirm from the post edit screen in the right sidebar that only the right category/categories are checked for the post?

If that is correctly set, then you may have some plugin or custom code messing with the main WP query.
I’d recommend disabling all the plugins and switching to a default WP theme.
If this solves the problem, then you can switch back to your theme and enable plugins one by one while testing until you spot the offending plugin.

Please let me know if that works for you.
    Cheers!

Thanks, it is good to know that what I did should work. It’s not my site, so I will have to talk to my boss before I do anything that I’m shaky on the technicalities of a website she paid to have built…

I’d suggest you to reach the person that was paid to biuld the site. This is expected to work, so this is a bug that they should fix. 🙂

    Take care!
