I came here to ask the same thing. I have a number of sites, all of which have the same amp settings. Yet 1 site is showing the featured image on top of the amp page.
I need to know on which condition the plugin outputs the div with class “amp-wp-article-featured-image amp-wp-content featured-image-content”. I want to be able to turn this off.
Another problem I just noticed… On one site the amp output shows the article title above the navigation crumbs. On another site the amp output shows the navigation crumbs above the article title.
Is there a way to take control over the order in which amp outputs these elements?
As for your problem @rparik1, you can experiment with the settings in ‘settings -> advance settings’. There’s a setting which will take the featured image from the content and there is also a feature which will duplicate the featured image within the content. I prefer to turn them both off. See if it helps.

Hello Jay,
Thank you for your suggestion.
Actually, I turn off the featured image from the content and duplicate the featured image but the problem was there earlier.
But Now I just on featured image from the content and the problem is solved. Only on the first option in the setting section (Featured image from the content).
My problem is finally solved. 🙂
Thank you again.
Glad it solved your problem in this particular case. And I don’t want to hijack your thread, but I’d still appreciate feedback from support on my closely related issue as well.
I’d really like an option to turn the displaying of the featured image off in AMP (but still visible to Google’s crawler so I won’t get warnings in my search console).
