    Hello everybody,

I am getting a strange error in /sitemap.xml for post type sitemap.

My website permalinks are set to /%postname%/, however in the sitemap one of the URLs contain year – /sitemap-posttype-post.2018.xml
This is giving 404 error in Google Webmaster Tools.
It is strange that when I type /sitemap-posttype-post.xml, the sitemap seems to be working correctly.
Can you assist me to sort this issue?

    Cheers
    Kal

  • Hi,

It seams that Hostgator has trouble with this year in the URL. Or maybe it’s the two dots. Not sure. Could you ask them?

To get around the issue, go to Settings > XML Sitemap and change the option “Split by” to “None”. As long as you don’t have thousands of posts, this should not be a problem. But if you plan to post many many posts per year, then it might become more difficult later.
