• Hi,

Will be transferring all posts from 2 blogs from Blogger to WP soon but need to understand which permalink to use. I read the Codex but I am still a bit confused. My template designer said…

BTW, I checked out your URL structure and the Options->Permalink structure you want is this”/%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%.html”. Hopefully that will keep your URL the same across the board.

I am not sure that I can get him to explain so could anyone here help me to understand his suggestion or offer me another one, if necessary? And, if I need to use my designers recommendation, do I tick one of the permalink options in the WP dash or would I need to enter “http://www.mysite.com/%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%.html” in the custom field?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Alan

    Thanks samboll!

Would you mind explaining why so that I can understand a bit better? As they say, it is better to teach a man to fish…well… you know the rest 🙂

    samboll,

Thanks…I read that yesterday. It made more sense today with a clear head 🙂 I do not, however, understand .htaccess & mod rewrite. Do I need to be concerned with them? FYI…. I am transfering posts from Blogger & trying to match the permalink structure so that I will not need a post url redirect from the Blogger postS to the same posts in WP. Does it sound like I am doing the right thing?

    Thanks, Alan

PS – I tried making the permalink structure the same as Blogger’s but there is a problem. Blogger seems to leave out the word “the” in post titles, a possibly more words. For example…I have a post url in Blogger called “Sorry for the Lack of Posts” with the url of…

    http://www.happinesshelp.org/2009/05/sorry-for-lack-of-posts.html

The url for the same title in WordPress is… http://www.happinesshelp.org/2009/05/sorry-for-the-lack-of-posts.html

I don’t know what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

    Alan
