5 most recent posts in index.html?

I’m building a basic site that will have a blog component. http://www.sitename.com with a blog sections whose url is http://www.sitename.com/blog/. My question is, is there a way to pull in the 5 most recent comments on the http://www.sitename.com index page from the http://www.sitename.com/blog/ (the wordpress is installed in the /blog root)?
