Seeking clarification on backups for WordPress

    I’m about to upgrade to 2.7.1 but want to back up first using phpmyadmin. I’m totally confused now by the instructions for backing up WordPress, and there are conflicting instructions in the Codex – instructions that are different from what I have been doing right along.

    I’d be most grateful if someone could tell me specifically, step by step, what to check off and not to check off so that I can be sure I’ve done what I need to protect my data. Thanks kindly for your help. It’s much appreciated!

    I just use WP-DB-Backup.

    That’s not an option. I have tried to get that plugin to work and it simply doesn’t. I should have indicated that information in my initial request for help.

    I need to know how to do this manually using phpmyadmin. Thank you again for any help anyone might offer.
