• This plug-in is like a prescription for cutting down on Media Library bloat…a problem that can cause BackupBuddy and other non-server-level backup-up plug-ins to choke when the library gets enormous and a CDN is not being used.

I was on a mission to find a plug-in my clients could use, and this one is it. As a tech writer I have trained non-techies on far more complex stuff than this plug-in, I can definitely show the least technical of them how to use this plug-in in the way that matters most to them. The UI is that well thought out. Then, if more is needed, they’ll have the Pro version and I can get in there and help with the more advanced needs.

I purchased the pro version and performed both scan types: MEDIA LIBRARY and FILE SYSTEM . I put this plug-in to the test by installing it in a test system running DesktopServer on my Local Machine, where I had recently modified wp-config.php to point to a custom folder for media uploads. I wanted to see how to make it throw false positives, false negatives, and find out how much goofiness from me it would tolerate. It didn’t even break a sweat. I purposely jacked with my test site’s wp-config.php, using it to go back and forth between the custom and standard media upload folder by alternately defining custom media directories (I have run into clients where this has happened), and each time uploading new media and embedding it onto a page. I watched how the plugin tried to address these files, either as “Seems Not In Use” or “File Not Found”. My unfair test had only managed to throw it as far as “File Not Found”. I was still able to use the plugin’s UI to “correct” that status (probably something in the WordPress database is doing this thanks to my cruel abuse of wp-config.php) or quickly find the file in the website’s directory and move it to where it belonged. I cannot stress how much easier that level of fix is to perform with this plug-in.

Here is the list of plug-ins I successfully ran alongside this Media Cleaner Pro during my test:
    BackupBuddy 8.2.5.2
    GravityForms 2.3.2
    iThemes Boom Bar 1.2.12
    iThemes Security Pro 5.1.4
    iThemes LoopBuddy
Menu Management Enhancer 1.1 (Chris Mavricos, SevenSpark)
Search Exclude 1.2.2 by Roman Pronskiy
ShiftNav Pro 1.5.2.1 (Chris Mavricos, SevenSpark)

Soliloquy 2.5.5. running the following Addons
    – Carousel
    – CSS
    – Themes

    iThemes Tailored Login 1.0.45
    UberMenu 3.4.01 (Chris Mavricos, SevenSpark)
WP Edit Pro 4.4.1 by Josh Lobe
WP-PageNavi by Lester GaMerZ Chan 2.92 (enhances LoopBuddy pagination)

Thank you! That’s a very thorough review and also a very kind one 🙂 I think I need to work a bit more on the UI however, as well as the tutorials which are not clear for everyone yet (especially non-techies).
