Hi, as you can see from my ‘boys and emotions’ post, part of the image is cut off. I know Kale images need to be at least 1200 x 800 so I made is 1200 wide which automatically made the height 1631. But part of it is cut off. Can you not use images which have more height than width? Seems strange if so that you can’t use vertical images?

    Thanks

  • Hi anaturallife.

Thank you for contacting us and for using our theme.

I’ve just visited that post – https://anaturallife.co.uk/2018/06/12/boys-and-emotions/ and the image you used in that article is scaled down to only 221px × 300px. As far as I can tell, by looking at the link – https://i1.wp.com/anaturallife.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Screaming-Boy.jpg?resize=221%2C300&ssl=1 it is Jetpack that “did it”. Could you see what settings you have in Jetpack regarding image sizes?

    Kind regards.

Thanks for your reply. I can’t see any settings in Jetpack relating to image size but I think what happened there was that I set the full size image to 1200 by 1631 as I know the width has to be a minimum of 1200 and 1631 was the height given so as to scale proportionally. 221 x 300 is the size of the medium image. Should I be making the thumbnail 1200 and therefore the full size image a lot larger?

I did figure out why it was cropping – the theme was adjusting the images to be a particular height and width – a horizontal layout to fit desktops. So I had to crop the image to be just the boy’s face and now it looks OK. Is it just best not to use vertical photos on the theme? Might be hard to do when taking photos of people or things like trees for example!

Do I crop the photo and then resize or resize then crop? It’s hard to know what the end size will be if I resize then crop but that seems to be the standard advice? Thanks!

@ Thanks for trying out Kale, we appreciate it!

Here are the ideal image sizes to use with this theme: https://help.lyrathemes.com/article/336-ideal-image-sizes

If you’d like to use tall images – you’ll need to use the featured image size. Try the instructions here https://help.lyrathemes.com/article/334-how-to-change-featured-image-size

    Hope that helps.

    Best,
    Abby
