Need help for redirection

    Hello,
    i want to have some explanation about redirection.. I already made many redirection from a http site to a https site..so i basically know how it works, but someone asked me a question and was not sure about the answer, i post it here :
    i have a website for example mywebsite.com and i finally want to change the name of the domain to mywebsite.ca (just the domain, not the host or database)…i’m just asking myself, do i simply need to make 301 redirections as we do it for a http site to a https site for example, or do i need to reinstall all the wordpress files and folders and point it to the new url…?
    quite a stupid question but i wanted to be sure.
    i mean, if the new url is empty (no databse) it will work with redirection wright??

    You would change the URL in the Admin section and point the URL to the site in your hosting cpanel

    hello thank you very much.. in fact there is something i don’t understand well. I simply want to have a new domain name, but everything, core files and database remain the same and stay on the same host.
    In case i just want to change the domain name, i don’t need to move all my files to the new domain name with a ftp(filezila)?
    do i need to make the redirection as we do for example for https ?
    First i thought i needed to move all worpdress folders and file under the new domain name with ftp. And then make redirection in database, files and htacess..
    regarding your answer, i don’t need to make a 301 redirection ?

    If you are on the same host you can just point the domain to the site folder. You would not have to ftp anything.
