• Hello,

On the menu bar of UpdraftPlus settings, there is a link to “Lead developer’s homepage”.

This link goes to https://david.dw-perspective.org.uk/da/ which is
    David Anderson’s Homepage.

This page is promoting Mr. Anderson’s religion.

Because I do not agree that my clients sites are linked to a religion promoting page, I will have to stop using UpdraftPlus unless you remove this link.

For the same reason, I will be led to no longer take care of the French translation.

Being from the country of Voltaire, I respect the fact that Mr Anderson expresses his opinion. However, I do not agree with the way he has used it.

This is a pity because the plugin is very good.

Thank you for telling me if you intend to do something.

    Best regards,

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello

Thanks for this advice Cyrille I haven’t seen this link.

The other question which come then is that if we pay for the pro version do we give at some point our money to Mr Anderson’s religion ? Or this link is just an ad paid by Mr Anderson’s religion to the updraft plus developer?

In any case as I am also from Voltair’s Country I totally refuse to support from a way or another a religion furthermore when I am not aware of that…

Thanks to the developer to clarify the situation and of course removing such link.

    Bon soir,

Oui, je suis un chrétien, et oui, Jésu et son amour sont d’une importance absolute pour moi. Si l’existence de mon page d’accueil est quelque chose qui va vous déranger de trop alors, oui, il faudra chercher un autre logiciel.

    Good evening,

Yes, I am a Christian and yes, Jesus and his love are of absolute importance in my life. If the existence of my home page is something that troubles you too much then you will want to find alternative software.

    Hello David

Thanks for your answer but as said by Cyrille in our opinion your religions thought even if it is honorable is part of your private sphere and shouldn’t appear in any manner on the updraftplus site which is dedicated to a WordPress plugin and should only contain information about it.

We are all users part of a community with a lot of differences with for each of us different thoughts and never we think that our thoughts should be mentioned here it’s private.

If we want to share our thoughts there are plenty of dedicated places on the web for that.

I paid for the pro version of Updraftplus because in my opinion it’s a great plugin for sure BUT I refuse (IF it is the case) to finance by any way any religion or so called.

So if you guarantee me that none of my € I paid you is used for religious stuff I’ll continue to use it.

bkantique, there may be people who are trying to carry on a discussion of “private” things like…

    • What I do with my income
    • If I can be forced to give public promises about my future spending habits, and whether they are suitable
    • What ideas I express on my personal homepage
    • Philosophies of how the public and private realms interact

    …on wordpress.org.

I am not one of those people!

Adults understand that a “developer’s homepage” link could eventually lead to reading someone’s personal opinions (in my case, traditional Christianity). People unable to handle that can avoid 1) the link, or 2) the software. Nothing more than that needs to be said, or belongs here.

So… this topic is different. I’m chiming in and will close this after my reply. I don’t really like how this topic has gone.

    A few points.

    1. I’m a UpdraftPlus Premium customer. That’s a disclosure. It doesn’t change my role here or performance, it’s just that I have probably written that down in my 23K replies on this site. Why not just get it out there? Well here you go. No, it’s not a conflict of interest.
    2. I agree with David. The way this topic went isn’t for these forums. If a plugin author puts a link to their personal site in their plugin, that’s allowed. The link says “Lead developer’s homepage” so it should come to no surprise when it is the homepage of that lead developer. The views are his ’cause it’s his homepage.
    3. If that link is an issue for you for any reason the you have a recourse. Use a different plugin. Being a paid customer doesn’t change that solution.
    4. When someone gets paid for anything they can also spend that on anything they like. That isn’t the business of anyone else and certainly not anyone on this support site.
    5. These are support forums. They’re not for grilling anyone about their views, religion, etc. If you have a technical issue with this plugin then you are in the right place. If you want to grill an author about how they spend their money? No. Not here.

I’m closing this topic and may archive some of the replies. Please do not repeat this again and keep the topics about support.

Regarding that link? The original poster asked and receive a reply. If the user wants to move onto another plugin then that is that user’s choice.
