Help with template installation

    Hi Guys

    I am a newbie and could do with some advice please?
    Below i have pasted the instructions i have been given to install a theme…i am up to point 4.

    1. Unzip the the template file that you have downloaded.
    2. Via FTP, upload the whole folder to your server and place it
    the /wp-content/themes/ folder. The template files should thus be
    here now: /wp-content/themes/gothamnews/.
    3. You will then also need to CHMOD the “cache folder” in the themes
    folder i.e. /wp-content/themes/news/cache/ to 777 (details here).
    4. Log into your WP admin panel and click on the Design
    tab    . Now click on the News theme to activate it.

    Now when i log into WP admin panel i do not see a Design tab, i should see the following..

    MY WEB LOG
    DASHBOARD
    WRITE MANAGE DESIGN COMMENTS GOTHAM NEWS OPTIONS

    instead i see…

    MY WEBLOG
    DASHBOARD WRITE MANAGE COMMENTS BLOGROL PRESNTATION PLUGIN USERS OPTION

    Now if i press the presentations tab it allows me to choose and upload the theme but when i upload it i get the following error message which makes me think i am doing something very wrong…

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function register_sidebars() in C:\HostingSpaces\montou31\highavenue.co.uk\wwwroot\wp-content\themes\gothamnews\functions\admin-setup.php on line 74

    Can i please get some advice and help?

    in the left sidebar of the admin panel
    “Appearance – Themes”
    (there is no longer a Design tab)

    What version of WordPress are you using? That sounds like version 2.0 or thereabouts. The theme you’re using is probably only suitable for WordPress 2.5 or higher.

    i have checked and the WP i am using is 2.1, i installed it via fantistico with my host, do you know how i can upgrade please?

    Having checked i actually need wordpress 2.7 to run the theme, can this upgrade from 2.1 be done via fantastico?

    One of my host providers uses Fantastico and they’re currently offering WordPress 2.7.1 for all new installations. If your hosting company is updating Fantastico regularly, you should see an upgrade links if you log into Fantastico. If it’s not there, I’d strongly recommend downloading a copy of WordPress yourself and doing a manual upgrade. If the blog is very new, you might even want to start all over with a fresh install.

    If you want to stick with WP 2.1, then have a look at the Beast-Blog and SeaBeast themes.

    Hey adam30,

    I am also using the Gotham News theme. I have the problem that it just doesn’t shows the thumbnails on the homepage. Do you have the same problem? Or maybe a solution?
